Mert Sabuncu is a Professor at Cornell Tech and in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Cornell University, and holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Radiology at Weill Cornell Medicine. Mert’s research interests are broadly in computational biomedical imaging, with an application emphasis in neuroscience and neurology. Engineering concepts include signal/image processing, probabilistic modeling, statistical inference, computer vision, computational geometry, graph theory, and machine learning. Mert is a co-founder of the machine learning in medicine initiative at Cornell, which is a cross-campus collaborative and runs a web-based seminar series.

Mert received a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University, after which he moved to Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a post-doc at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL). Before joining Cornell, Mert was a faculty member at the A. A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging (Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School).

Mert’s research is primarily supported by NSF and NIH grants. He is also an NSF Career Awardee (2018).
